Did you see....?
Mr. Moore, did you see the new seedling that is blooming inside the greenhouse? Mr. Moore would smile and say "Which one"? Then we would head down to the seedling greenhouses to look at the rose seedlings, especially the ones that he had tagged to keep and evaluate for further testing.
Never without a pair of clippers in his pocket or pencil and paper, he would make notes on what crosses to make next. When one of the seedlings really stood out, he would make cuttings or take bud eyes and give them to me to bud. He would say, we need to build this one up right away, or let's see how this one roots. He was like a kid in a candy store; each rose seedling was special to him.
Not only did he look at them as potential roses to put on the market, but also as future breeding parents for future rose crosses. He would often say, "I think the next cross will do it, or we are getting close".
....then next spring arrives... Did you see?
