'Rubaiyat' rose References
Book  (1971)

p13 The early post-war years were not highly productive of prize-winning roses; it takes time to bring a nursery back on course. In 1948 the red ‘Rubaiyat’ won the All-America Award, a success that brought it on to the rich American market.

p155 ‘Rubaiyat’. (‘McGredy’s Scarlet’ x ‘’Mrs. Sam McGredy’) x (seedling x ‘Sir Basil McFarland’). Very fragrant, deep rose-red hybrid tea. Winner of the All-America Award in 1947.

C. C. Hillary, Perth. ….and a bed of nine large ‘Rubaiyat’s carrying over five hundred flowers in cerisy-red is something to remember. In case some may think me guilty of exaggeration, these bushes of ‘Rubaiyat’ average seven feet in height and are nearly five feet across. It is a rose never without sweetly-perfumed flowers,….

J. Fyfe, Whangarei, N.Z. A Search for Perfection. Perfume is a wonderful thing in the garden, but I’m afraid a rose like ‘Rubaiyat’, one of McGredy’s introductions, with all the perfume, vigour and remontancy it can display, falls down on colour which to me does not appeal.
