Hi again, Margaret!
You know the American influence here is very strong, too strong I would say. We get it "rubbed in" all the time through films, pop songs, TV programmes etc. Of course I learnt the "Queens English" at school, and I do my best to remember that, but it is hard sometimes. The difference is often as I see it in spelling, and the same words having different meaning in England and America. Like colour/color, realise/realize, vise/vice and dumb which also means stupid in the U.S. Please correct me if I am wrong - also in other matters pertaining to language. I guess it should have been "the 23d of June" and "the 10th of January". It`s the same in Norwegian. It may be a comfort to hear that I always write the date 23/6 and 10/1, never 6/23 and 1/10 even when writing to Americans.

About the Farenheit part, you can forget about that altogether. I don`t think I will ever be able to sort it out, apart from the fact that I know water boils at 212 degrees.
So all given temperatures are and will be in Celsius(Centegrade)

By the way I have also admired a photo of Nevada uploaded by you. If my memory serves me well, I think I threw in a favourite vote. It is of the whole plant. A wonderful rose indeed.

Now, I forgot to ask you last time we had contact, so that`s why I take this opportunity. Your family name sounds Norwegian. Here it is written with only one s. and has the heavy intonation peculiar to Norwegian and Swedish. Are you by any chance of Scandinavian decent?

Good luck with your photographing!

Esperantists write the date as year/month/day, which is easier for international understanding.
Yes Norwegian ancestry - from the Viking migrations to Yorkshire over a thousand years ago.
Forecast here for today is 43 C, and the roses aren't at their best for photography!

I tried to delete that message, to replace it with a private one, but the Delete button is being as sensible as Fahrenheit.

Come to think about it I have sometimes used the Esperanto version in my office work. I have been in the airline business for more than 40 years and many of the airlines we handle require this form of dating. Yes I know all about the delete and cancel buttons. I had to write the message to you twice. I do wish we had summer here too, although 43 is a bit too much. As you may have noticed we have had temperatures rangeing from -2 to -11 here since a week before Christmas, and it seems to go on and on, which is quite unusual for Lista. I can`t remember the last time it was like this. Luckily for the plants there is a thick snow cover. And the blue winter light is fantastic. Well the Vikings did a lot of damage, but it seems they did some good too.

With best regards from Arvid.
