You make my northern hemisphere winter solstice of holly and ivy look extremely dull and pedestrian. The nights will be drawing out for you for the next six months now.

This is true - and by Summer solstice there should be some nice crispy blooms to arrange.

Will you be posting any more pictures of your wonderful midwinter roses this year?

I'd certainly look forward to a special treat of Billy's roses too!

I missed the solstice this year Andrew but here's today's catch.
I'll share the gumby shot here - everyone squished up for the camera - and there are some less congested ones in 'my garden'.
Hope you have been able to retrieve the contents of your computer.

Hi Billy,
They are beautiful, what a treat to have in the middle of winter and thank you so much for sharing it. Here it is exceptionally warm and dry with glorious sunny weather my thermometer reached 28C today! There has been no rain for a month and I'm watering like a fiend with no rain forecast until the weekend at least. I managed to get most of the important pictures back thank you.
Andrew.

Thank you Billy for sharing such a glorious display! You've gone to so much trouble, but you do also get to enjoy the fragrance as a reward!

Those roses must have all snacked on something really nice. What a gardener! Will delegates to the November 2018 Heritage Roses in Australia conference tour be able to see these roses at Araluen?

Yes! Araluen has most of these varieties and many, many more - a wonderful rose collection in a beautiful and powerful Australian bush setting! I hope that those who come for the conference will have a spare day in Perth to spend at Araluen as you can easily enjoy a day there and still feel as though you've only scratched the surface.

These come from plants that have to look after themselves apart from help with water in the dry seasons. The plants are old enough to forage for themselves - the roots must go for miles. They don't get much in the way of food from me these days.
Perth has mild winters and we are sheltered by the old trees. Temps do occasionally drop below freezing in some Perth suburbs but I've never seen a frost here in over 30 years.
Roses like Safrano & Isabella Sprunt, Peace & G. Nabonnand and General Schablikine definitely do their best work in the winter here. Others just keep on keeping on. Some of these ball and brown as the temps drop - in the case of some it's only the outer petals that are affected but others are solid ruin.

Yes Hubert G - the fragrance is wonderful. Yesterday was a big day for far-away family and friend birthdays so these were picked for their birthday bunch photos.

Your experience is a timely reminder to back up computer Andrew.
