Today (19/9/18) I noticed this open bloom on my Maman Cochet had a normal looking set of pistils, something I've never seen on this rose before. Even though the pistils were already exposed, I pollinated it with fresh Lorraine Lee pollen (it was either that or Mme. Lombard). It reminds me of the story of the creation of 'William R. Smith' which was from a Maman Cochet with fertile parts. I had this happen to my White Maman Cochet earlier in the year and wonder if the particularly dry weather might be playing a part. This Maman Cochet flower was on a very short stalk coming off a branch growing close along the ground.
I hope the fertilisation takes! I'm quite excited!
