Erich Unmuth of Vienna, Austria, is the best authority on Geschwind’s roses. He and I have written extensively about the great hybridizer. There is a large collection of his roses in the city garden at Baden, outside Vienna.Most of his roses have no scent as he strived to create winter-hardy shrubs and in this case with climbers. With this rose, he produced nine-foot plant with rounded leaves. It was one of the few climbing roses to survive the 1939-40 winter at Sangerhausen, where this photo was taken.
