I took this photo of Mom, working among the roses. The little, white bags were evidence that she had been hybridizing again. Her crosses were often mini rose pollen on to bigger varieties. The little cuts in the baggies allow ventilation, but they were also her own 'code' which identified the pollen used.
This is my favorite photo of my Mom; and it was first used as the cover shot for the Tiny Petals Nursery catalog in 1987, the year that Mom passed away. This same photo was also used for the cover of the nursery's 25th anniversary catalog. It shows Mom standing in front of her huge Climbing Baby Darling plant with the head of her Ada Perry tree in the foreground.
