Such a beautiful rose. But offers No disease resistance. And I do not spray chemicals at all.

Purple Tiger and I have a love, hate relationship. It hasn't grown very well, staying quite small. When it blooms..I'm in love. When it is between blooms, I wonder why I grow it.

That's exactly how I feel about this rose. It was nice to see I'm not the only one! My mother started one from a flower someone gave me and I also bought one. Both are short and spindly, come spring they bloom their little short spindly heads off. I'm with you on this one.

This is a funny topic. I grow Purple Tiger and someone just gave me theirs, did not like it's finicky growth habits.
This is the type of rose that I forgive it's bad habits every time I get a bloom.
I adore the striped roses. So they pretty much can do no wrong.
I just baby whatever their needs are.

It's a good feeling! Knowing it's not you growing a scrappy rose. I don't know why I don't get rid of some roses that produce big, fabulous canes and leaves but I hate their flowers. Is it to make up for the scrappy ones like this? Oh, the choices we face.

I bought this rose as a tree rose. The blooms are absolutely beautiful and striking. I kept thinking I had a problem because it has never "taken off" and kind of has an unhealthy look. I would definitely recommend not getting this rose as a tree - I think it will always look like a "long twig with a head that is too small". But alas those dramatic blooms!!! Sadly, I may use it to propagate a bush and get rid of the tree.

THIS. I have one that had a few blooms last year, but lost all the leaves multiple times and smaller blooms (but, first year in the garden...).

This year, we'll see what happens. The blooms are GORGEOUS. I may go ahead and put it in a pot instead and place a bunch of annuals around to make up for the yucky leaf problems and the tiny stems!

Münchener Fasching is a very exceptional rose that deserves to be rescued from the brink of extinction.

In a 1975 study reporting on 628 cultivars Münchener Fasching was the only rose to have very high levels of five anthocyanin pigments: cyanin, pelargonin, peonin, chrysanthemin and callistephin. Only one other rose, South Seas, had very high levels of even the first three of these pigments. Most roses had only one or two, and usually not in very high amounts.

If anyone can provide budwood of this rose I would like to try to propagate it and get it into the hands of other hybridizers.

Did you ever locate this rose?
Did you check with the Heritage Rose Garden in San Jose?

The plant of Municher Fasching at the SJHRG was in tough shape last year when I was in touch with them. There was going to possibly be some effort to propagate it but I haven't heard whether this was done or how it turned out.

Munchener Fasching at the Heritage had its roots eaten by a gopher this spring. I tried to save all the small remaining canes, and sent some to others who might be more successful at rooting or budding than I am, but we all failed. You will have to try to import it.
