Well, I'm always looking for roses that have the names of my grandkids, which sometimes is pretty fruitless. I found a rose named "Hamburger Phoenix" sold through "Rogue Valley". Purchased it and today I planted it in a 5 Gal container. It's pretty small, but looks real healthy. We will see what happens. i think i will label it ("H". Phoenix) when I get around to finishing my labeling project! I don't think my Granddaughter nor my wife will like the full name! Pictures to follow sometime before the 4th of July, hopefully!

Back to the Journal after almost 10 years. Purchased 10 new roses (for me) to replace some that have "passed on" in the last few years. "Bonfire, Bravo, Chelsea Belle, Scarlet Queen Elizabeth" [CCRS auction purchases 5/1/22]; "Veterans Honor, Grateful Heart, Daring Spirit, Memorial Day" [Jackson & Perkins sale] 4/11/22; Also obtained "Because She Served" and "Pearl Harbor" Put most of them in large 20 gal containers (I have a Gopher problem for any "In Ground" plantings). Stil have to plant the 4 I got just yesterday. Hopefully i will update my rose list to eliminate the ones that have died and add any new ones real soon.

Treated front yard roses with BAYER ADVANCED all in one. Spot sprayed for Powdery Mildew with 1 qt of ORTHO "orthenex" spray on some rosees that had "hot" spots. Started to train "Fourth of July" (a climber) to travel up the wall. 'John's rose' in the backyard has some real good new growth, which is very good news. This weekend is the CCRS rose show. See the CCRS website for more details.

Planted 'Royal Amethyst' & 'Twight Zone' in the back yard, (Gopher Zone). Constructed an underground anti-gopher shell out of galvanized steel mesh. We will see what happens. Received 'Pride of England', St. Christopher' & 'Sarah' from Heirloom Roses. Planted them in containers for the first season here in Oceanside. 'John's Rose' has new buds and small leaves coming out. A couple of plants, mini's in the front have powdery mildew, treating with anti-fungal spray. Might not make it! More later.
