'Catherine Kordes'. Rich scarlet blooms of large size and splendid shape, making an ideal exhibition flower. The colour is liable to vary somewhat, with occasional specimens showing bright pink. The growth is vigorous and rather thorny, while the foliage is apt to mildew under adverse conditions. This is an outstanding exhibition sort with good garden value. Light tea scent.

p32-3 ibid. ‘Cathrine Kordes’ the most useful at Glenara

p34-3 S H. Bidwell, NZ Yes! We have Red Roses. ‘Cathrine Kordes’ HT (Kordes, 1930) Description: rich scarlet with crimson shades which keep their quality very well. The buds are long and pointed, opening into flowers of splendid shape of highest exhibition standard. The growth is good, and in every way this is a very fine variety. Murray: Very fine rose, reasonably prolific and good long stalks. Bidwell: The third best red we have, and in every way fully merits Mr. Hazlewood’s description. Exhibitors cannot do without it. Penn: ‘Cathrine Kordes’ is becoming more popular than ever, and is a grand doer. It seems variable; this season it has done better than last. Bennett: Very satisfactory.

p76-6 Frank Penn, NZ. ‘Cathrine Kordes’ (Kordes, 1930) This rose canot be passed over, as it is such a vigorous doer and free bloomer. The blooms are large and well-formed, good for exhibition, but the colour described as scarlet, varies and fades at times. A friend of mine considers this the best all-round red Rose.

p83-11 Mr. E. Cummings, WA. ‘Cathrine Kordes’ Though it does not always make a great deal of new growth in a season it makes an excellent showing in any garden and attains exhibition standard in the cooler season.
Book  (1943)  Page(s) 91.

Moree, NSW. ‘Cathrine Kordes’ What a Rose! A true type of exhibition Rose in every sense, but growth is only medium. It would indeed be a find if we could get such a rose with a robust growth like 'Sir Henry Segrave', 'Fontanelle', or 'President Macia'
