This rambler is located on the highway leading into Tiburon, California off Hwy 101. There's another huge Belle west of Hwy 101 in Corte Madera behind Marin Joe's. Susan Louise is a seedling or sport.

Could you please tell me the best way to propagate the Belle of Portugal? We have one that has been in our family for at least 60 years. My Great-Grandmother purchased it in honor of my Grandfather (her only son-in-law who was Portugese) and planted it right outside of her kitchen door. My husband & I inherited the beautiful Rose "tree" along with the house when my Father died 8 years ago. The house is now for sale and I absolutely have to take a part of that Rose with me. Unfortunately for the Rose, we are moving to Oregon, so if you have any advise as to the best way to care for it in that colder climate, I would appreciate it very much. I always thought my Grt.-Grandma had made the name up and so did my Dad, but today, finding your website and the Belle of Portugal on it, has brought a lifelong story to reality for me. Thank you very much for that!!! Kelly Manning-Modesto,Ca.

Carry some cuts and try in a sheltered place.

If this rose has been in the ground 60 years, it's growing on it's own roots. Look around the base of the bush for canes growing away from the main hub of canes. Gently dig them up. You should see fine white feeder roots. Clip the cane from the rest of the root, leaving 4 inches or so of rooted cane. You can pot these up and easily take them with you. Keep the pots evenly moist.

There are alot of different growing zones in Oregon. Western Oregon has some of the best rose growing conditions around. Where in OR are you moving?
