I have had a search of the literature and the references are confirming that size of the bloom is a way to distinguish these two roses. - Patricia

Leontine Gervais
1911 “small in size”
1936 5cm
1967 “two inches”

Auguste Gervais
1919 “four to five inches”
1936 10-12 cm.

The confusion seems to have been a very early one: The references of 1913 and 1933 speak of large flowers for Léontine Gervais. All LG I have seen nowadays have large flowers, so they must be Auguste Gervais. But where is the original LG?

I saw two different roses labelled Leontine Gervais in New Zealand. The attached photo shows one with more petals and a button eye. Does anyone recognise it?
