Survives SEVEN zone 5a winters as own-root WITHOUT ANY WINTER PROTECTION (updated as of July 2018). Very hardy & drought- tolerant. Beautiful scent. Many petals which Japanese Beetles can't get inside .. JB devour the lesser petals like Knock-out. Biggest bloom ever that last long in the vase, but petals fry at above 90 F, need partial shade for hot climate. There's also a public rose park in Canada, zone 5a that grows Big Purple.

Does anyone know how well this rose grows on the pacific north west? The flower looks amazing but I am a bit worried about the disease resistance. Thanks.

Would this survive in zone 6b?

The 1999 reference says Zones 5-10. The 1992 reference says it does much better in the warmer north, than the cooler south, of New Zealand.
