Source: www.newplantsandflowers.com: "Poppy Rose is a new hybrid moschata with single dark red flowers, bred by Rudy Velle from Belgian rose breeder Lens Roses. It brought home for Lens Roses the Bronze Medal of the fall edition of the yesterday held Belgian trade fair Florall. It is developed for the English market. The red flowers of this hybrid moschata refer to the poppy, which became the symbol of the First World War thanks to the poem of the Canadian military physician, John Mc Crae, entitled ‘In Flanders Fields’. On the occasion of the launch of the Centennial commemoration of the First World War (1914-1918) ceremonies, the new rose ‘Poppy Rose’ was baptized in the Flanders Field Museum in Ypres"
