This is my original plant of "Grandmother's Hat" planted circa 1990. It came to us from Bob Edberg, but we don't know where he got it. It was, however growing here for a couple of years before it was widely known.

For the first 3 years or so, we pruned it like a Grandiflora but then, we quit, and let it choose its own pathway. It's now over 8-ft. tall, and about 10-ft. wide . . . Though we are going to have to cut back some canes so that we can walk by it. It grows partially shaded by a massive old seedling avocado tree.

The blooms on this plant are often striped and stippled with pale blush.
