First year. I am so impressed by Sweet Hips that I believe if I could only have 3 plants it would be Sweet Hips, Rugosa Alba, and Fru Dagmar Hastrup. Note that FDH is in the background here. You can also see a tiny bit of Lotty's Love in between, a very young plant I'm not judging yet. If you can only have one of FDH and SH here are the comparisons: FDH is shorter, denser, darker green, smaller foliage, blooms continually and more prolifically, smaller hips than SH but still large, with excellent taste. SH is a larger plant and not as dense as FDH, has much larger foliage that is light green when fresh, deeper pink significantly larger flowers but not as many or as often, very large hips (but then I have been thinning them since this is a new plant.) I prefer the fragrance of SH as it is more rose like. The fragrance took a while to develop. I didn't notice much in spring and summer when it was a very young plant, but now that late summer and cooler temps are here it is excellent. FDH has clove spice fragrance. Springdale, Sept 2023
