Margaret, your two photos might need reassigning. Check out the 1953 rose ‘Roger Lambelin Striped‘.

My feeling is that some Roger Lambelin plants can do this at times - an temporary change rather than a sport. But I haven't grown it myself, and would welcome comments from those who have had an opportunity to watch it longterm.

You may well be right. ‘Roger Lambelin’ itself was a sport - of something - and seems to wobble around from horizontal edges to vertical stripes. But David Ruston said in his 2004 reference for ‘Roger Lambelin’ that it had “very definite white stripes”. It would be good to look at David’s planting records and see what year it came into his garden. Roy Hennessey introduced ‘Roger Lambelin Striped’ in 1953. David visited the U.S in 1985 and saw ‘Roger Lambelin’ in Gregg and Phillip’s garden. Was that striped or edged? (Later edit - Vintage 2006 ref says edged)
