From 'The Garden', Nov 3, 1923, page 570.
Accompanying text: "A ROSE GROWING IN A STONE WALL. I am not sure that the enclosed photograph is suitable for reproduction, but I send it, as it may interest some readers to see a Rose growing in the joint of a stone wall. I noticed a seedling Briar growing, and when it was strong enough I inserted a bud of Zephirine Drouhin in 1922 and the photograph shews the year old plant with three open blossoms and one bud. The plant is strong and healthy and bids fair to do well in its unusual quarters. It is surely a far cry from a joint in masonry to strong clay soil. The joint in which it is growing is about 2ft. from the ground. — H. C. W., Lingfield."
