'Hollywood Star' rose Reviews & Comments

I have heard that this rose produces beautiful blooms color and form-wise, but that the blooms tend to be quite small. Is that your experience?? The pics here look like the blooms aren't really that small.

As you probably already know, bloom size can be affected by many different variables, i.e., climate, culture, siting, etc.
We have updated HelpMeFind to add more descriptive fields for the roses in the database, and are slowly, it's a big database, going back and filling them in so that they may used in advanced searches.
I went back to the original registration for 'Hollywood Star' in the March, 2001 American Rose Magazine (page 45) to update the rose page. I found, that in this case, the breeder, John Sheldon, did not register a specific size for the bloom. He did say that the bloom was "medium sized, full (26-40 petals, and borne mostly solitary."

Hi I am the breeder. Size is a factor of many things. Certainly temperature will affect the size, nutrients, water (especially when the bud is forming) age of the bush, size of the cane it is growing on, and many others. I have certainly had many blooms large enough to compete for Queen of Show and Peter Alonso won King at the Pacific Southwest District Show held on April 22, 2005 so I think the size is more a function of the grower and your micro climate.
