Introduced in United States by Germain's (Germain Seed & Plant Co.) in 1958 as 'Merry Widow'.
Introduced by Unknown (Australia) in 1960 as 'Merry Widow'.

Grandiflora.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  Spice fragrance.  35 to 40 petals.  Average diameter 4.75".  Very large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, high-centered to cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Bushy, compact, upright, well-branched.  Glossy, dark green foliage.  5 to 7 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
