Origin:
Bred by Francis Gillot (France, 1933).
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1935 as 'Sanguinaire'.
Class:
Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub.  
Bloom:
Red, orange shading, yellow stamens, ages to violet-red .  Mild fragrance.  18 petals.  Average diameter 4.25".  Large, semi-double to double, in small clusters, open bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy.  Glossy, light green foliage.  

Height: 5¾' to 6'7" (175 to 200cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Hardy.
