Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1991-92 Season.
'Aotearoa NZ' (MACgenev); McGredy 1990; 'Harmonie' x 'Auckland Metro'; pale coral pink; 28 reports on 53 bushes; 1-3 years; 1 metre; 7.5 rating. Better reports on this well publicised rose this year. It has had good ratings except in the wetter areas of NZ such as the West Coast, Waikato, Manawatu and West Otago where they all report blooms balling up in the rain badly. All report very healthy bushes except for a reporter from Auckland who says it gets blackspot, this same reporter says poor fragrance everyone else lists strong fragrance as one of its chief attributes. In some ·areas petals burn in the hot sun and lack substance, most feel it is best in the autumn when the weather is drier and warmer - we will await more reports next year when the bushes have become established.

p16 Pierre Pekmez. Auckland Rose Trials 1990. the range was mainly of international roses. Nevertheless, Sam McGredy's varieties were just too good and received the different 1990 awards. p84 Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1990-91 Season
'Aotearoa' 'New Zealand' (MACgeneu) McGredy, 1990. pale coral pink. 'Harmonie' x 'Auckland Metro'. 4 reports on 6 bushes; 1 year growing; 1.2 metres; 7.5 rating. Only on first year acquaintance, this new introduction looks most promising. All agree and, as expected, are from the Auckland area. The fragrance is strong and pleasing, as is the colour. The form is classic HT and big, but petal texture could be better, as rain does ruin the blooms easily. It is better in hot, dry conditions. It looks promising for the exhibitor. Health so far has been very good.

p57 ibid. Fragrance Award and Certificate of Merit. 'Aotearoa' - 'New Zealand' HT. A rose we have already heard a good deal about since our own Sam McGredy named it specially to commemorate the 1990 Sesquicentennial in New Zealand. Attractive HT blooms of exhibition form in a clear, soft pink shade and with a powerful fragrance. Bushes are of medium height, bushy growth habit with attractive glossy foliage to enhance the blooms. Particularly good in the summer and autumn. Blooms often borne in clusters, but with pickable stems, one that will no doubt be sought after by all keen Rosarians. Bred by Sam McGredy.
