Origin:
Bred by Jacques-Julien Margottin père (1817-1892) (France, before 1852).
Introduced in Australia by Northampton Nurseries in 1861 as 'Gloire de France'.
Class:
Hybrid Bourbon, Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Carmine-red, crimson shading.  5 or 6 sepals.  Strong, sweet fragrance.  Medium, double (17-25 petals), expanded , rounded bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Glandular sepals, leafy sepals, rounded buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  Glossy, dark green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
