'Paul's Scarlet Climber. Cluster-flowered Climber. Despite the competition from many of the more recent, repeat-flowering red Climbers 'Paul's Scarlet' remains one of the most popular. True , it does not produce many blooms after its great summer display, but it is of manageable size and is one of the easiest roses to grow. 'Scarlet' exaggerates it beautiful color, better described as blood-red, wthout any hint of purple. Unfortunately, it is only very mildly scented. Foliage is mid-green and squarish. it was raised by William Paul and introduced in 1916. it is a wonderful rose for cottage-garden plantings, its color going with just about anything. 'Paul's Carmine Pillar' x 'Reve d'Or'. Summer flowering.
