[From "Bedford" by Alethea A. Yates, 2013, p. 60:] Shady Hill Nursery was founded in 1880 as part of Geneva Nursery in Geneva, New York. Advertisements from the 1890s state that the company had a business office in Boston and 200 acres of land in Bedford....In 1912, John Kierkegaard [past Director of the Botanical garden of Copenhagen]...bought the Shady Hill Nursery Company, where he had long been an employee, and renamed it New England Nurseries....He died in 1932. New England Nurseries...still belongs to the Brown Family.
