1952 The Rose Annualp242 Round the Nurseries.
R. Murrell of Rose Acre Roses, Hemel Hempstead.
Mrs. A. J. Love: It is not known for certain when this business was founded, but I have an idea that it was about 1904. However, Mr. A. J. Love bought it in, I think, 1919 and many still will remember that booklet and catalogue “My Favourite Roses and Why, “of which he was the author...... In the 1938-39 season the nursery was moved from Shepperton to Hamel Hempstead, a site of 134 acres most of which had to be converted to food production they are gradually getting back to roses......Mr. Love died in May, 1946 and Mrs. Love is now carrying on the business ably assisted by Percy Handover, the manager and secretary.
