[From Gemak in Tegele, 2013, by Paul Seelen, p. 90-91:] Forefather Thijs Leenders...looked after the gardens of the immensely rich trader/shipowner/large ground owner Karel de Rijk in Steyl...His sons Johannes and Andreas started around 1880 their own nursery a stone's throw away and then broadened their activities towards Barlo and Kaldenkerken. In 1885 they started beside trees also with roses...The old nursery Gebr. Leenders was taken over by four sons. A fifth son, Mathieu, established M. Leenders & Co. in Alland....In 1943 Jan Leenders, son of Mathieu, started his own nursery in Kaldenkerkenweg in Tegelen together with Henri Vanhorst.

[From Opkomst en de Bloei van Rozendorp Lottum, by Huub Hendrix, 2015, p. 71:] It was Johannes and Andreas Leenders who founded a tree nursery in Steyl-Tegelen around 1880 and started growing roses before 1885. ...Johannes Leenders had five sons who all went into breeding. Their company N.V. Gebr. Leenders was later continued by four sons, while Mathieu started his own nursery in 1909 under the name M. Leenders & Co. ...In 1928 Gebr. Leenders had about 7 to 8 hectares and was partly located in Kaldenkirchen, Germany.
