Guillaume Alfred Edouard Doriat (1875 - 1953), graduate engineer from the Versailles Horticultural School, established the nursery Doriat & Fils at the turn of the 20th century. He purchased the collection of Felix Crousse in 1905 and that of (Auguste) Dessert and Méchin in 1922. Charles Doriat, his son, continued the nursery until 1967 when he sold the enterprise to the nursery Marionnet in Soignes-en-Sologne (Loir-et-Cher). Howver, Marionnet discontinued the peonies. [From American Peony Society Bulletin, 1924, p. 39:] M. Dessert informed me that Doriat had already taken 30,000 plants so as to have some stock with which to fill the year's orders.
