Although the reported parentage is Rosa moschata x Rosa odorata gigantea, the rose in commerce as Rosa moschata at that time was actually Rosa brunonii. See the references to Rosa moschata.
Francesco Franceschi reportedly imported seed of Rosa gigantea from India in 1904 and left the USA after 1913 to live in Tripoli. The hybridization of this rose probably occurred between those dates.
