Book  (Nov 1994)  Page(s) 57.

Centifolias. Paul Ricault. Portemer, France, 1845. Like ‘Blanchefleur’, which it closely resembles, except in colour, this rose shows signs of hybridity. The rolled petals and densely packed flowers have considerable charm, and it is one of the most free-flowering among these old types. Soft, rich pink, and well scented. 5 feet.

Paul Ricault. Centifolia. Although this rose, introduced by a Frenchman named Portemer in 1845, is usually classed as a Centifolia, its smooth green leaves and relatively few thorns betray its China Rose ancestry, and it is perhaps best classed as a once-flowering Bourbon. There are, however, no grounds for doubt over the flowers, which are superb - big, full of most symmetrically arranged petals, and sweetly fragrant. In its summer season, the arching bush is fairly loaded with rose-pink blooms. Parentage unknown. Summer flowering. Fragrant.

Glenda Pearson, Upper Swan. Heritage roses in Western Australia.
My most commonly-occuring old roses. I have coined this category because apart from rootstocks, these are the roses that I have found growing often together, all over the arable regions of WA (North to New Norcia - south to Albany). These roses include: Paul Ricault......
