p23-1 S. H. Bidwell. NZ The outstanding rose of the garden was undoubtedly ‘Hector Deane’. Mr. [H. Lamont] Murray, [Parnell] has a dozen of this variety, many of them grown from dormant buds, and I can easily understand his preference. It has taken Auckland by storm.

'Hector Deane'. The colour is a combination of orange, cochineal, carmine and salmon pink, flushed and veined saffron yellow at the base. Growth is free and branching and the blooms are carried on splendid stems.

p20-3 C. C. Hillary. 1943 in England. Another rose which had many admirers was the comparative newcomer named ‘Hector Deane’. It is a really charming Rose of striking and attractive appearance. Many shades of pink and copper, orange and cerise seem to be included in the make-up of its lovely complexion.

The picture in the “[Australian Rose] Annual” is nothing like the Rose. It is a good grower and has a wonderful perfume.
