Mauve or mauve blend Hybrid Rugosa.
Origin:
Bred by Gilbert Nabonnand (1828-1903) (France, 1878).
Introduced in France by Ph. Nabonnand et ses Fils in 1881 as 'Comte d'Eprémesnil'.
Class:
Hybrid Rugosa.  
Bloom:
Purple - crimson.  Strong fragrance.  Large, semi-double (9-16 petals) bloom form.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Produces decorative hips.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Jacques Duval, comte d'Eprémesnil (1827-1891 Château de Thibermont) was an acclimatologist who was a vice president of the Sociéte d'acclimatation de Paris. Beginning in 1879, he created a garden with over 5,000 exotic plants at the Domaine des Cocotiers in Antibes on the Golfe Juan.
