This one has a spreading, short growth habit. Blooms are very similar to David Austins. Beautiful bright red with an amazing fragrance. Best blooms in spring and fall.

Can anyone help on this following first rose? 'Fathers Love' MEIabelar. (see the 2015 ref from Swiss rose Garden Nursery - who can't help) 'Father's Love' MEIkarouz. 2000 (see the 2012 ref from Corporate Roses)
Both HT's, both velvety red. Patricia
Later edit: Corporate Roses advise MEIabelar was a local coding name.

Pretty sure this rose is sold here in Australia as "Father's Love" (after that name they have "( Var. Meikarouz)") , according to Corporate Roses, who distribute Meilland roses here.
I bought one after having a smell of one of them and thought it was about the best fragrance I'd come across from a red rose, and I've smelled all of Papa Meilland, Mister Lincoln, Oklahoma, Crimson Glory, Camp David, Alec's Red, Firefighter, Ekstase, Falstaff, William Shakespeare 2000, Munstead Wood, The Prince, etc.

I suggest that we in aus ignore the corporate name that positions us as insular semi-literates, and use the name the breeder gave the rose in the first place. These multiple names across the world are imho a bad idea.

Bravo, hmfusr (or brava, as the case may be). You're right, they're tremendously annoying. That's especially true when the old name honors someone of lasting fame or who really did do something good for roses and/or rosarians, and the new name is that of some vapid celebrity who'll be forgotten in a month. I could name names, but I won't. :)
