Although I typically find that 'purple' roses are more difficult to grow in brr-brr cold zone 5, I have been growing this one for several years, it is the largest of my grandifloras at that. I think the hardiness estimation is too conservative.

Thanks for the input. Do you use winter protection on Lagerfeld?

I do... but only to shield it from the wind. I use a standard rosecone, with the top cut off of it, many of the canes that stand out still survive the winter for me. The particular area in my garden is on the northside of my garage, where it might recieve some radiant heat from the wall, but it is some 5-6' from that wall.

I hope that this info. helps.

Hello. Would anyone know if Lagerfeld and Stainless Steel have the same, light lavender color? They are remniscient of each other right? Only difference is one is a hybrid while the other is a grandiflora?

They are not the same color. 'Lagerfeld' is a cleaner "blue" shade while 'Stainless Steel' tends more towards gray. I have always sought out lavender roses and have found 'Lagerfeld's' color to be somewhat unique: a crisp light bluish lavender that glows in afternoon shade. Most lavenders tend to quickly fade in full sun; especially in Southern California. Having said this, culture, environment, and soil chemistry play an important part in rose colors. For some growers the two roses might approach the same color, but not from my experience. I also recommend the Hybrid Tea 'Lady X,' which is pale pink with a mauve cast. It's a beautiful flower form and a strong growing plant; however, placed next to other blue roses she will look pink, while planted next to pink flowers she will look mauve. A very subtle color that blends well with silver, gray, white, and pastel shades. Finally, the old HT 'Intermezzo' is one of my favorite lavender roses. A clean 'Sterling Silver' color with the fragrance & quartered form of David Austin roses yet grows compactly while staying under two feet. 'Intermezzo' was hybridized by Pedro Dot and introduced in 1963. It's one of the first primary hybrids from 'Grey Pearl,' the original stud rose for all lavender/mauve colored roses. Vintage Gardens sells both.

I purchased a Lagerfeld several years ago and it has been the best blooming rose in my garden of 35 plants. I am getting ready to put in another Rose garden and wish to purchase Armstrong Rose Lagerfeld. When can I get them
