'Julia Bugnet' rose Description

ARS:
Medium red Hybrid Rugosa.
Bloom:
Rose-red. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.
Habit:
Medium, suckers on its own roots.
Height: 4' to 5' (120 to 150cm). Width: 4" to 5" (10 to 13cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 2b and warmer. Very hardy.

Notes:
The 2 photos courtesy of T. Kevin Irvin of Wasilla, Alaska. He bought the plants from Washburn Nursery in Palmer, Alaska. Washburn Nursery had obtained the plants from Percy Wright, Canadian prairie rosarian.
Kevin Irvin adds the following notes: 4' to 5' tall 4' to 5' wide, suckers freely. Full flush of bloom throughout July with sporadic blooms until frost. Exceptional hardiness. When other roses die back to the ground, this rose has NO dieback.
This is a sister seedling of 'Nipsya' and 'Lac La Nonne' according to Bugnet's Notes de botanique and as reported in Western Canadian Horticultural Society Journal, November 1986, p. 78.
He kept 'Nipsya' and 'Lac La Nonne' for breeding purposes but did not move 'Julia Bugnet' to Legal when he retired in 1955. He introduced 'Rita Bugnet' and 'Mme Georges Bugnet' at a later date.
