A Description of Climbing & Autumnal Flowering Roses, by the Rev. James Jones, A. M. Bristow Rectory.
Many of the Autumnal Flowering Roses being now in bloom, both climbers and others, I forward for insertion in the Cabinet, a list of what I know to be good. The kinds I have seen in bloom, and have carefully compared the flowers with the descriptions given by Mr. Rivers, Mr. Wood, and others, celebrated for growing Roses, that I can testify to their correctness and agreement, as to merit. I have forwarded the list now in order that, being inserted immediately, it will be serviceable to those persons desirous of procuring plants for autumn planting.

ROSA arvensis blanda.
Blush-flowered Wild Rose.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER. Rose with seed-buds globular and smooth; peduncles slightly hispid; blossom semi-double
and flesh-coloured; leaflets oblong, pointed and smooth; edges finely sawed; petioles prickly; spines of the branches recurved; stem straggling.

This delicate new species is called the Double Blush Ayrshire Rose. Our figure was delineated from a plant trained against the wall in the Nursery-ground of Mr. Knight, where it flowered for the first time. It is certainly an improvement upon its white-flowered wild original; for although white is an emblem of purity, the blush of beauty, not impairs the gem.
