Class: Hybrid China, Hybrid Gallica.   
Bloom: Crimson, violet shading.  Strong fragrance.  up to 125 petals.  Average diameter 4.25".  Large, very full (41+ petals), flat bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.   
Habit: Armed with thorns / prickles.  Large foliage.  5 leaflets.  
 Height: up to 47" (up to 120cm).  Width: up to 32" (up to 80cm).
 
Growing: USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.

 Named after Emma Goldman (June 27, 1869 Kowno, Russia (today: Lithuania) - May 14, 1940 Toronto), lithuanian-born american political activist and anarchist ("Red Emma"). She was deported to the Soviet Union in 1919, but left disillusioned for England in 1921.
