ARS:
Ayrshire.
Origin:
Bred by Thomas Rivers & Son Ltd. (United Kingdom, 1835).
Introduced in Australia by C. H. Halstead in 1899 as 'Queen'.
Class:
Ayrshire, Climber, Hybrid Moschata.
Bloom:
Dark purplish crimson.  Large, semi-double (9-16 petals), cupped bloom form.
Habit:
Climbing.
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
The classification as 'Hybrid Moschata' is an artifact of some early rosarians having an expanded view of what constituted a Musk Rose, that included various vigorous climbers, and, apparently Ayrshire roses. William Paul listed this variety [as 'Queen'] under the heading: 'The Hybrid Musk and Other Hybrids'.

The rose in commerce as 'Ayrshire Queen' is not Rivers' cultivar, but probably 'Ayrshire Splendens'.
