'Pink Favourite'  Medium   Bright  pink   Remontant   P2   H2   **
The  1950s marked the greatest dominance which  American rose breeders had ever known; I have tried to pick out the most significant Hybrid Teas of the decade, and half of them come from the United States...... 'Pink Favourite' has been kept waiting, and it is an important rose because of its strong and healthy foliage. It shows a breeder (in this case Gordon J. von Abrams of Davis, California) acting in a manner calculated to bring fresh blood into Hybrid Teas. He had a seedling from 'Georg Arends: x 'New  Dawn'. Now 'Georg Arends' was a Hybrid  Perpetual from  'Frau Karl Druschki'  x `La France', introduced in 1910  by Wilhelm  Hinner,  whom  we have already  met as the raiser of Pharisaer'.   'New  Dawn' is a  well-known climbing rose. He put the pollen of that seedling on to 'Juno', and the result was 'Pink Favourite'......  'Pink Favourite' is a splendid, healthy rose to grow, and we may hope it will breed some still better. The bright pink flowers are large, but I fear they have missed the ethereal touch of 'Juno'.

F. Fairbrother. Rose Foliage. Sometimes the main stems of a variety have few or no thorns but the rachis has a plentiful supply, e.g. 'Pink Favourite'.

Pink Favourite [One of Harry Wheatcroft's selections of the Best Hybrid Teas.] Parentage: ('Juno' x seedling 'George Arends') x 'New Dawn'. Description... silvery rose pink... Produces a wonderful show in the garden, yet, when disbudded, probably achieves more 'best of show' blooms in the United Kingdom than any other variety...
