'C. x jackmanii 'Minister'' clematis Description

Class:
Early Large Flowered, Group 3.
Bloom:
Violet, dark red anthers, ages to violet-red . 4 to 6 petals. Average diameter 8". Large, single bloom form. Late spring to early summer, late summer.
Habit:
Height: 5' to 6' (150 to 185cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b. Plant in sun or partial shade. Suitable for growing in a container. It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring.

In 1982 the inventor, Aili Kivistik a citizen of Estonia, organized a group of unnamed, unpatented Clematis jackmanii varieties for an open pollination breeding project. Seeds originating from this crossing were planted out, and the new variety was selected in 1985

Parentage in recent patent deviates from earlier statements. The breeding program in Roogoja was led by Uno Kivistik until his death in 1998. Minister
