Introduced in France by Jean-Pierre Vibert in before 1820 as 'Bengale atropurpurea'.
Introduced in Australia by John Baptist in 1861 as 'Splendens'.

China / Bengale.  
Bloom:
Crimson or purple.  None to mild fragrance.  Average diameter 2".  Medium, semi-double to double, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Upright.
