Breeder's notes:
The vigor of this rose amazes me. A mature plant seems to always have some blooms on it. It is a nice plant nestled into the landscape in a mixed border to provide a shot of bright color through the season. It makes a nice hip display that is really attractive in fall after the leaves fall. When it first bloomed under lights on the plantstand it was a magenta pink, but when it went outside the color changed to red. The UV light in sunlight it seems intensifies the color. The more sun the plant gets the more the blooms darken. Each bloom lasts a week or so, so the color lasts awhile before the petals fall. The female parent of this rose comes out of some polyantha breeding and selection when I lived in zone 3 in Rhinelander, WI and it provides this rose with more winter hardiness than its male parent, Robin Hood. This rose has more of the growth habit of Robin Hood. It is darker than both parents in color. It has really good tolerance to blackspot and usually looks very good without spray under most conditions. I haven't grown it in zone 3, so I don't know if it is reliably cold hardy there. It is being sold through Spring Meadow Nursery. They are a wholesale nursery that provides liners of roses and other woody plants to hundreds of other nurseries that grow on the plants for sale or rose societies or other groups that want to resell the potted liners. It may be a little bit of time before it is routinely found for sale at the retail level.
