Origin:
Bred by Eugène Verdier fils aîne (France, 1861).
Introduced in Australia by Joseph Harris, South Yarra Nurseries in 1865 as 'Richard Smith'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Crimson, dark purple shading, violet shading.  Medium, semi-double to double, in small clusters bloom form.

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
Said to be similar to 'Général Jacqueminot'.- see. At the end of the 19th century it was deemed a synonym due to its likeness, however, this is not a synonym in the modern sense.
Richard Smith was a nurseryman and seed merchant in Worcester.
