Photo courtesy of Eber, Max J.
Bloom:
Pink blend, lavender outer petals, mauve , blush reverse, ages to white . Moderate fragrance. Small to medium, single to semi-double, in small clusters bloom form. Moderate, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Small buds.
Habit:
Glossy, dark green foliage. 5 to 7 leaflets.
Growing:
USDA zone 6a and warmer. Can be used for beds and borders, container rose, garden, landscape or rock garden. Hardy.
Breeder's notes:
Only seedling out of three vigorous open pollinated seedlings from presumed 'Sven' or 'Lena' that resisted mildew while in a pot during the summer. Foliage stayed relatively clean. Transferred out to garden bed in fall 2010. Spring growth has been prolific, doubling in size.
My second rose grown from seed to survive to bloom. One of three sister seedlings, and the cleanest of all three having little to no disease during the summer whereas her two siblings mildewed badly. The second two while had interesting flowers, died in their containers over winter.
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
As of Sep 2011 can confirm moderate disease resistance. Lower leaves blackspots but also grows a whole new immaculate top of dark leaves which for me makes the disease tolerable. Problems could be easily kept contained with copper fungicide. Blooms rather nicely on and off on staggered candelabra, upwards facing sprays. Fragrance is stronger than initially noted thus is now mild-moderate.
Summer 2012 was pretty bad disease wise, most of my roses defoliated completely here in Maryland care for rugosas, damasks and gallicas. Enjouee unfortunately also defoliated. However it does seem susceptible to a certain type of blackspot and not another as the leaves generally get mottled and not spotted to my recollection. It still sends out tips of fresh foliage and reblooms rather well, it bloomed twice as long as my other roses and is sending out small sprays right now. Forms hips.
After closer examination of foliage, there is some suspicion that the seedling may be a cross with 'Plaisanterie', the neighbor of 'Sven' in the same bed (if not swallowing it). The seedling's leaves look like 'Plaisanterie' except are smaller, the same size as 'Sven' exactly.
Mature growth habit will confirm or debunk my suspicions of the seedling being related to 'Plaisanterie' i.e if it throws out octopus canes or not, at the moment I'm about 70% sure it is related. As it matures it might become even evident that its relation to Sven might have been a mix-up all together, however the reduced foliage size comparable to that of 'Sven's as well as flowering in a similar manner make me about 60% sure it's probably also is related to 'Sven'. So while it it technically according to my memory a 'Sven' OP, it is a good chance 'Plaisanterie' was the pollen parent. There is also thoughts that it could also be an OP from 'Lena' as the seedling has the red leaf stems that is more pronounced in 'Lena' than in 'Sven' but it too is present to a degree in 'Plaisanterie' so it's hard to say. Naughty seedling indeed.
I will be making cuttings to root, I tried a few earlier this year and they didn't take but they dried out cause of my own fault, so this time I will be more careful.
