Breeder's notes:
Paul Barden: "I got this from Sheri Burglund many years ago during a visit when she and Barbara Oliva were here. Sheri has this plant labeled:

"Red Bluff Oakhill Cemetary, Leak Grave, MP Carnation-like"

Its very similar in style to 'Oakington Ruby' and other "Victorian" miniatures; tiny blooms of informal double form (hence "Carnation like") on a small-ish plant with a China-like growth habit: branching constantly, twiggy growth, building slowly to its mature size, flowering nearly constantly.

My original plant of it has lived in a 15 gallon pot for nearly twenty years and has suffered much neglect in recent times. It has not exceeded 3.5 feet tall, undoubtedly due to its soil volume constraints. Blooms are borne in clusters of 3-15, and always less than an inch in diameter, quite double, with about 25-35 petals. There is a definite "candy-sweet" scent to the blooms that seems uniquely "China" to my nose. It would be very easy to look at this and think it might be a color sport of 'Oakington Ruby', but the latter tends to have larger blooms and will grow into a larger specimen. (My 'Oakington Ruby' is now about 7 feet tall and easily as wide. I do nothing to it except occasionally remove dead wood)

I probably have photos of the blooms somewhere, but I have obviously not labeled them as such, so searching through 20 years of photos makes it difficult to find one specific image. I'll have to take some photos this year for HMF."
