Breeder's notes:
This rose codenamed 'Virnaughty' and given the name 'Wayward Child' by Viru belongs to the group of hybrid gigantea climbers whose parentage is Reve d'Or x Rosa gigantea: All are seedlings of 2008, like Sir George Watt, Sir Henry Collett, Manipur Magic, Tangkul Treasure, Amber Cloud and Ivory Chalice.
We had planted it in one corner of our big garden, behind a rainwater tank opposite our entrance gate and among a small grove of bamboos, which effectively hid it from our sight so we very nearly forgot about it. It grew and grew and into the tree nearby but didn’t flower for many years , unlike the others of the same parentage Then suddenly about 6 years ago it suddenly burst into bloom . After this first flowering, when we suddenly came upon it, Viru called it Virnaughty. And when in the next years it flowered lavishly, he gave it the name Wayward Child. Since its first flowering, it has caught up with its siblings, and flowers regularly every year for long periods.Just like a tardy child.
Prickles: small size, triangular, brown colour.
