Beautiful bush shot - thanks for sharing it. Do you remember if this one becomes unsightly in the heat? I've always liked it, but am wary of the varieties with mutable colors in the heat.

Nearly all roses have mutable colors in our intense desert heat, Joseph, so I'm not sure how to answer your question. Judy Garland is one that does better than most though as the temperatures begin to soar.

If it helps, Joseph, I bought Judy the first year she was released here. I loved the look of the catalog photos but hated the colors she turned in Newhall, CA where I grew her. Some mutable yellow to orange roses just look "dirty" to me. Judy and Flutter Bye are two. I gave her to someone who loved that finished color. I don't remember any real issues with the plant, I just couldn't deal with her finished color.

Not surprising, Cliff. The bush wasn't offensive, I simply didn't care for the color resulting from extreme heat and sun. That's purely a personal taste preference. I didn't care for the finishing color of a number of others which leaned toward those tones as they aged in high heat and brilliant sun. They just looked dirty to me.

This "dirty" look is what I was afraid of. These yellow blends that move toward red with exposure to the sun often end up looking sunburned. This might not be bad,but the ending color often clashes harshly with the new blooms.

How do you feel about Pinata, Kim? It's been one of the shining stars of my new garden so far.

It's a nice plant and flowers well, but I would be far more attracted to the finished color if it were closer to the tones Mutabilis expresses rather than the 'burned' shades Pinata and others of its type produce. They're just not attractive to my eye.

My mutabilis is putting on an incredible show right now, and I have to agree with you that it's head and shoulders above most others.
