thank you for posting a photo of hips. This aspect tends to be so neglected that it is sometimes difficult even to discover whether a plant sets hips or not, never mind their colour, size, etc. Yet they are so good for us, and for the birds, as well as beautiful to look at in their season.

I thoroughly agree. The more information we can have on hips, the better. See the HelpMeFind glossary on Hips.

Thanks for pointing that out. What you've added there is very informative. It would be great to be able to search on "has hips" in the advanced search here on HMF. (and for others, being able to search on "no hips" might be useful too). Do you know if there's a spot for making suggestions like that?

Paani.......

You can do an ADVANCED SEARCH for roses that produce hips. Just click on GROWING and scroll down to where you find the box for PRODUCES DECORATIVE HIPS and tick the box and click CONTINUE and SEARCH. I got 34 pages of rose links in my search.

Please note that HMF is a work-in-progress and the data is continuously being updated. There are probably many roses in the database that do produce hips that may not come up in the search. The reason for this is that the roses may have been added to the database prior to the plant characteristics feature and the rose page has not been updated. Or we do not have a REFERENCE or MEMBER COMMENT stating that a rose produces hips.

The good news is that when a site user points out that the rose page is missing a plant characteristic, we do update the rose page.

Smiles,
Lyn
