Strewth. Is that one bush? Does it always grow like that if it's happy?

The reason I ask is that I was assuming a 1.5 metre circle would be more than adequate. The picture may be deceiving, but that beast looks to be 3 or 4 metres wide.

Yes and yes. Perle d'Or makes a big bush given time. Its presumed sport Mme Jules Thibaud isn't far behind it; its definite sport, Ravensworth, is less vigorous as far as I can judge from my garden.
They don't get to the monstrous size of Spray Cecile Brunner (thinking about buttonhole roses).

Eh? How monstrous is Spray Cecile Brunner then? (I assume that's the same one that is often sold as "Bloomfeld Abundance").

And I have been thinking about buttonhole roses. A local florist of my acquaintance is trying to get me to grow them so she can nick some.

There's a monstrous Spray Cecile Brunner in a garden that was burnt out and abandoned after the Ash Wednesday bushfire, 30-odd years ago; no care in that time, with rainfall average about 700mm, and some drought years. Haven't been past it lately, but from memory, it's at least 7m across, and 3 or more high. The cutting I struck from it about 7 years ago is 5m x 3.
CB and White CB are easier to fit in. A tall bush your friend might like is the rose sold in Aus as Princesse de Sagan (probably Professeur Ganiviat); David Ruston uses its little amaranth buds a lot in flower arrangements. I can't find a photo of an arrangement, but have a look at photo 223330 - it's the bud on the left.

Yup, I knew the original, and the white sport, were far more compact. 3m x 5m is a good size for Spray though. Given its lack of thorns and disease, I think I can find a place or two for that.

And thanks for the tip about "Not Princesse de Sagan".

Strewth. Give me caffeine - you may request that your rellies plant 'Perle d'Or' on your grave with that epitaph. That will then make the second headstone in Rookwood with that revelation.

I shall request that they also add "Blimey!" and "Stone the crows!".
