thank you for posting the growth progress after the roses near-death! Very encouraging. What climate zone do you live in (or which region?).
I planted Etoile de Hollande clbg 2 years ago with 3 stems, 2 died in winter, it is now a thin little thing (pencil thick) and just 1 m, and just one stem. Hoping it survies and establishes! You giv me hope! I live in Salzburg, zone 6b.
best regards, cyra

Hi cyra,
Thank You for Your comment.
My zone You can see on my member-page: 6a-6b.
Étoile de Hollande needs some time to establish and likes a lot of sun... as well as manure. I planted one in the (partial) shade of an oak and it took way more time to establish and grow.
The rose on the photo was grafted on Schmids Ideal. But I think, it might be own root by now, for the rootstock is suckering badly.
In winter You get lots of snow in Salzburg. Heap it up quite high over the lower part of the stem. Especially when it gets a lot of sun.

Hi Jay-Jay,
thank you for your reply! I am not sure I can see your member page, since im am not a full member.
6a-6b is encouraging, although I realize your Ètoile almost died one year. I did cover it with soil and fir twigs, still it had some damage. Last year there was almost no snow and and in Feb. the sun was burning down on plants, and in April there was frost again. I lost some roses this winter due to these extremes. My Ètoile stands open towards SO and SW, so gets plenty sun. I hope it will not burn. Yours looks adorable, and well trimmed too :-)
Ah, Deutsch geht auch :-), ihr Holländer könnt ja alle gut Deutsch! Viele Grüße, cyra

Just click on my member-name and that page will open.
My Étoile almost died, for it was a very warm winter 2011-2012... till January 23 2012 and suddenly the temps dropped till minus 20, bare frost without snow, lots of sun and a chill strong dry wind from the east. That did the trick. Although this rose flowers till the frost kicks in.
Maybe take a look in that year at the photo's of my Mme Alfred Carrière.
Und ja auf Deutsch klappt's auch! Danke für das Kompliment wegen den Rosenschnitt.
Mit freundlichem Gruß, Jay-Jay.
